Key Account Manager (Midlands Based)

Job Description:

At SMI, we recognise that the success of our business is wholly down to our passionate, dedicated and committed team. Due to expansion, we are looking for professionals to join our busy Sales team! This person is ideally located in the Midlands.

Responsible for all account management and sales activities for a group of clients within the Midlands (combined turnover of £3M) whilst maximizing sales profitability, growth and account penetration, effectively selling our core product range. Build client relationships and maintain excellent communication with all clients and colleagues.

Schedule: Monday to Friday

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 (+ £5,000 Car Allowance) (OTE up to £75k)

Location: Midlands / Field Based / Home Based

Reporting to: Business Development Director

Responsibilities:

  • Proactively manage a portfolio of public sector accounts at both group and depot level in the Midlands and North of England
  • Arrange client meetings to review their account both F2F and over video calls (Microsoft Teams)
  • Confidently promote the company brand and products to clients
  • Establish and maintain a good relationship with all clients
  • Deliver a first class level of customer service to all clients
  • To consistently achieve set weekly and monthly activity and revenue/profit targets
  • Utilise CRM to identify and log GAP opportunities against accounts to better understand client’s current and future needs
  • Maintain accurate client records, all correspondence must be recorded in a timely manner in Pipedrive
  • Maximise opportunities (Deals) by keeping up to date with existing and potential clients
  • Identify upselling opportunities
  • Identify and resolve any client concerns
  • Collaborate and communicate with other internal departments where appropriate, particularly Customer Services
  • Ensure communication is maintained with key stakeholders including Procurement, Health & Safety and Operational representatives within your clients
  • Continue to improve your knowledge of SMI’s products range including new product arrival


Performance Objectives (KPI’s)

  • 10 key appointments per week (F2F and Teams)
  • Quotes and opportunities followed up within 24 hours
  • Appointment notes and actions copied onto CRM within 24 hours (utilizing Sales Support Team)
  • Client Proposals sent within 48 hours
  • Review Opportunities once a week
  • Identify 5 x Leakage/Gap Opportunities per week
  • Spend 2 hours per week on analysing your customer spend to identify sales gaps


Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office, particularly Excel, Outlook and Word
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Confident when dealing with difficult situations and decisions
  • Impeccable organisational and time-keeping skills
  • Ability to work in a team or a self-motivated environment


Experience and Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with Public Sector clients is highly advantageous
  • At least 5 years’ of experience in a B2B account management or sales focused role
  • Full UK driving license
  • Based in the Midlands/North or willing to relocate
