It’s been a full and rewarding few months for all of us at SMI.

Our ESG team has certainly kept us busy this quarter, and we couldn’t be prouder. From launching our 2025 ESG Report to earning award nominations and a new EcoVadis rating, there’s been real progress to celebrate.

Alongside this, we’ve supported local causes, welcomed new spaces, hit branding milestones, and enjoyed some great moments on the football pitch.

Let’s take a closer look at what’s been happening.

WE’RE COMMITTED TO MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Another quarter, another chance to do things the right way, and we didn’t miss a beat!

A NEW ACCREDITATION

I’m proud to share that we’ve climbed from bronze to silver with EcoVadis.

It puts SMI in the top 15% of companies assessed, a clear sign we’re doing things the right way.

The rating covers four key areas:

  • Ethics
  • Environment
  • Labour & Human Rights
  • Sustainable Procurement

With only four points off gold, it’s within our sights for next year!

THE SMI 2025 ESG REPORT

Our 2025 ESG Report, launched in April, shows what we’ve achieved so far, what’s coming next, and how we’ll keep pushing for real change.

We’re open and honest about every step, so you can trust we’re making the right choices for you and the future.

OUR ESG EFFORTS TAKE CENTRE STAGE

A new milestone for us...  We received our first-ever nomination at the UK Green Business Awards 2025 for Supply Chain Project of the Year! This recognises the outstanding efforts led by our talented ESG team.

Elizabeth Mellor, our Head of ESG and Sustainable Procurement was also shortlisted for Rising Star of the Year. A reflection of her commitment to making a real difference at SMI.

We ended the quarter on a high, with three more shortlists at the National Sustainability Awards – including Company of the Year!

We’ve also just been shortlisted at the Edie Net-Zero Awards for our supply chain decarbonisation efforts – a great continuation of the work already being recognised.

SUPPORTING CAUSES THAT MATTER

The ESG Volunteer Committee has kept up the momentum this quarter, showing just how committed our team is to making a positive impact:

  • Litter picking - Supporting local communities by organising litter picks to keep our neighbourhoods clean and green.
  • The LifeHouse breakfast service - Continuing to aid the homeless in and around Portsmouth.
  • Little Green Sock Project - Helping the team in Manchester move into their new warehouse.

These projects show how our team brings energy and passion to causes that matter, from close to home in Petersfield to communities further afield.

COMMITTED TO DOING THINGS RIGHT

We passed our annual British Safety Industry Federation (BSIF) audit with 100% compliance, a clear sign that we meet the highest standards in product safety, quality, and traceability.

As part of the Registered Safety Supplier Scheme, every product we supply must meet strict criteria and come from a verified, reputable source.

That means you get exactly what you’ve paid for – properly tested, fully compliant safety equipment that protects your people and keeps your business compliant.

A MILESTONE FOR OUR BRANDING TEAM

Last quarter, our Mimaki Europe B.V. DTF printer reached an incredible milestone - over 100,000 logos printed.

This quarter, we’ve just hit a staggering 170,000 logos printed in-house!

Each one represents a customer who trusted us to get it right. It’s a testament to the hard work and skill of our team.

The next goal? We like the sound of one million!

CELEBRATING OUR CHAMPIONS

Each quarter, we recognise a team member who stands out.

For Q1, that was Jasmine Ranson. As our ESG Executive, her dedication and positive attitude have made a real impact across the business and our sustainability work.

We’re proud to have Jasmine as part of the SMI family and look forward to seeing her continue to shine.

Our Q2 Champion was Rachael Ingate, our Customer Support Manager. Rachael goes above and beyond to make sure customers get clear, helpful support every time.

She leads with care and keeps the team focused on what matters most!

TEAM SPIRIT ON THE PITCH

Two SMI teams from Vision House and Kites Croft came together for a great day of football at St Mary’s Stadium in Southampton.

The event supported the Saints Foundation and gave us a chance to get active, have fun, and give back.

Thanks to Tailor Made Technologies for organising, and to everyone who laced up their boots. We’re proud to support such a good cause and look forward to more days like this.

LOOKING AHEAD

It’s been a busy, productive first half of the year, and I couldn’t be prouder of the team and the incredible work happening behind the scenes.

There’s plenty to look forward to in the coming months, including new product launches, the ESG Exhibition in London this September, and the 2025/2026 SMI Catalogue.

Thank you all for your continued support, here’s to a brilliant year ahead!
