The Waste industry is inherently hazardous, with operatives working on a daily basis with toxic, heavy, and potentially injurious materials and substances. Street cleansing incorporates a variety of different tasks such as street sweeping, emptying public litter bins, removing graffiti, killing weeds and winter maintenance (such as gritting).
Due to the varied nature of duties involved, street cleaners require suitable PPE for the specific task at hand. For example, staff emptying bins are at risk of needlestick injury and will require needle-resistant hand protection.
