• What is fire safety equipment?

  Firefighting equipment should be stored in see-through storage cabinets.

  Fire extinguishers, on the other hand, should be mounted on the walls in easy-to-reach locations along escape routes. This allows workers to easily identify and then access the correct extinguisher.

  Fire extinguisher cabinets can be used to store fire safety equipment both inside and outside. Make sure storage cabinets are never in the way of emergency exits. 

• How should fire equipment signage be displayed?

  Fire equipment signage should be displayed in the following ways:

  • To clearly signpost fire points
  • To make fire alarms easy to spot
  • To make it clear who the on-site fire marshals are
  • To indicate where fire protection equipment can be found
  • To show employees how different fire extinguishers can be used

• What fire extinguisher is needed for electrical equipment?

  Both CO2 and powder fire extinguishers are suitable for use on electrical equipment.

• What are the legal requirements for fire safety in your company?

  UK companies must abide by The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (RRO). 

  This means all workplaces must do the following: 

  • Carry out fire safety risk assessments
  • Provide adequate PPE for fire protection
  • Provide fire safety training to all employees
  • Use fire safety signage in all relevant working areas
  • Store fire extinguisher supplies in the correct storage containers
