• What is the new 4-bin rule?

  The new 4-bin rule refers to the fact that most households and workplaces now need to separate their waste into four containers.

  These should be for:

  1. Paper and card
  2. Residual waste (non-recyclable)
  3. Food waste (mixed with garden waste if appropriate)
  4. Dry recyclable materials (e.g. plastic, metal, and glass)
• What size are commercial bins?

  Commercial bins come in lots of different sizes.

  Outdoor wheelie bins commonly range from 240 litres to 1,100 litres for general waste and recyclables. However, food waste bins don’t usually exceed 240 litres.

  With this in mind, choosing the right size of commercial bin for your business will depend on factors like:

  • The type of waste
  • How much waste your business produces
  • The frequency of collections (i.e. weekly or fortnightly)

  The cost of a commercial bin will vary depending on the type and size of bin you select.
