Absolutely! Face masks are PPE that protect against harmful substances in the air.
If you’re wearing a face mask and need to dispose of it, take it off using the ear loops. Try not to touch the front of the mask at all.
Once removed, place the mask in a waste bin. Then wash your hands or use hand sanitizer with an alcohol concentration of at least 60%.
The relevant safety standard for masks like face coverings is EN 149. This is a design standard that makes sure disposable masks and coverings are efficient at particle filtering.
EN 149 covers three levels of protection:
FFP1 masks are suitable for low-risk air contaminants, such as a light amount of dust.
Face masks should have a level of FFP2 or higher to protect against risks like COVID-19.
Disposable face masks should fit over the chin, nose, and mouth.
The top of the mask should sit halfway up the nose, while the bottom should touch below the chin.
Masks should sit flat on the sides of your face and not feel loose.
