FAQs

  • There’s a lot to think about when it comes to selecting the right fire resistant clothing.

    This can include:

    • Fit
    • Cost
    • Comfort
    • Durability
    • Functionality

However, the most important thing to consider is the specific hazards of your work environment and the level of protection needed.

A health and safety risk assessment will help you to determine what FR clothing you need for your workplace, as well as what standards it should meet.

  • FR clothing is typically made from carefully chosen materials such as Nomex, Kevlar, and Modacrylic. These all have excellent flame-resistant qualities.

That said, some natural materials (like cotton) are also naturally resistant to flames.

These can be treated with chemicals to enhance their heat resistance and flame retardant qualities.

  • It’s really important to carefully follow the manufacturer’s instructions when it comes to caring for FR clothing.

Otherwise, you could risk compromising its protection.

    Normally, you’ll need to:

    • Wash your FR clothing separately from non-FR clothing
    • Avoid using detergents that contain bleach or animal fats
    • Avoid overdrying garments (instead, dry on low heat or hang dry)
    • Steer clear of fabric softener and dryer sheets, as these are flammable

  • The main EN standard for flame retardant clothing is EN ISO 11612.

This lays out the requirements for protective clothing that limits flame spread, offers heat resistance, and protects against molten metal splashes.

All our FR clothing meets safety standards EN ISO 11612, IEC 61482, and EN1149.
